Prestigious Nick Kotys Award Honors Best Football Player In Miami-Dade as Judged By Coaches
the winner Jacory Harris, Senior
Miami Northwestern High School

Kotys Winner 2008

All Jacory Harris did in his senior season was lead the Miami Northwestern Bulls to an undefeated season, the Class 6A title, a number 1 National Ranking and "mythical" National Title.

Named the first Miami-Dade County player as Florida’s Mr. Football, Harris broke the all-time Miami-Dade County record for touchdown passes with 49. According to ESPN.com Jacory is "a shifty and smooth athlete who can create his own plays when the initial play breaks down. He will make people miss, and when he is on the perimeter, he puts tremendous pressure on a defense because he can throw it. He has a whip-like release and more-than-adequate arm strength."

Along with several of his Bulls teammates, Harris decided to stay home and play for his hometown Miami Hurricanes, where he has already enrolled and begun his collegiate career.

the award Each year, the coaches of Miami-Dade County's top 6A high school teams vote on the best player in their league. The results are tabulated and the winner is announced soon after the new year by the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables.

The trophy winner, his coaches and family members are honored with a special ceremony at the Coral Gables Country Club.

The winner's name is engraved on a magnificent plaque to join an exclusive list of some of the finest football players to play the game in South Florida.

the tradition Coral Gables' legendary High School coach Nick Kotys earned the distinction of being the only High School football coach to take his team to 6 state championships and 4 national championships.

The award was established in his honor by the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables after he retired in the 1980s. Coach Kotys passed away in 2005 at age 92 but the magnificent tradition that bears his name lives on in perpetuity.

Each year, only the most outstanding player in Miami-Dade County as judged by the top coaches is inducted into this honor roll.
